Our Subsurface™ line was designed as a non-tactile version ofSub Surface Sign - Diskey Sign Company our Series 8000ADA™ line. The example shown far left also has metal accents shown in our Metal Signs section. Immediately left is a sub-surface metal frame sign with changeable inserts. Great for changing enviornments or wayfinding!

These signs begin life as a piece of clear non-glare Acrylic. Pressure-sensitive vinyl copy is then reverse-cut and applied to the back of the sign. Several coats of our catalyzed Acrylic / Polyurethane are then sprayed onto the back, covering the text and providing the background color.

If a custom copy color is required, the PSV is peeled, leaving clear spaces that are then back-painted the appropriate color.
After the paint has cured, mounting tape is applied to the back of the sign for mounting (where applicable). If the face is made of more than one component, a PVC backer is used to merge the portions into one single sign unit. The mounting tape is then applied to the backer for mounting.

The result is a great looking, well-constructed sign built to your specifications, with virtually tamper-proof permanent copy.

Subsurface Combos (CSUB)

Combo Tactile / Subsurface Room ID Sign
The example above illustrates the new ANSI regulation regarding separate tactile and non-tactile elements, a provision not covered by the ADA. It also features beveled edges, adding to the vandal-resistance by making it more difficult to grip the edge.

For information about ADA and ANSI compliance, please see our Standards and Guidelines section. To see more mounting options, please visit our Mounting Methods and Layout Guidelines section.

We combined our Series 8000ADA Tactile™ line with these signs as well, creating the Subsurface Combo™. The example below shows an undersized, custom tactile header with an arched top - a motif echoed throughout the entire signage system. This particular sign is more of a combo insert sign, but the inserts are below the surface which is why we put it on this page.
